The Big Screen Southend at The Forum

Screening artist commissions, live transmissions, and short and feature films relative to the cultural context of Southend, South Essex and further afield. A quarterly programme of curated or newly commissioned artist moving images are screened daily in the public setting of Elmer Square, adjacent to Focal Point Gallery.

Recent commissions or group screenings have included work by Hannah Black, Phil Coy, Benedict Drew, Jefford Horrigan, Elsa James, Rosanna Lee, Nikhil Vettukattil and Renee Vaughan Sutherland. The Big Screen Southend accepts artist submissions on an ongoing basis to be considered for future public programmes.

The Big Screen Southend Events

Alongside our artist moving image programme, the Big Screen Southend presents information slides and films about community projects and initiatives. Each summer we present an outdoor cinema programme of family friendly films .

The Big Screen Southend is a partnership project between Focal Point Gallery, University of Essex, South Essex College and Southend-on-Sea City Council. It is managed on behalf of the partners by Focal Point Gallery.
